International Women’s Day 2020

From day one there was a woman there, whether it was your mother, the midwife or someone else. Those hero’s brought you into this world, and for that alone we should be incredibly thankful and eternally grateful. Throughout our lives we come across more and more of those women who shape us into the people we grow up to be.

It is disgraceful that for so many years women had to fight for equality they had to fight to be seen and to prove that they were worth it. They nurtured and grew the scientists and the world leaders and yet they weren’t allowed to vote and they aren’t allowed to contribute to the modern world.

Today, is a good day and even thought today is a day to celebrate those women in your life, those who raised you, those who love you and those who inspire you to be better and braver. I hope that you do this not only today, but everyday.

For me there are many, but here are a few.

My mum will always be at the top of this list. She is strong, she is brave and she inspires me every day. She is my rock, no matter what life throws at her she goes from strength to strength and will always make sure those she loves are okay before taking care of herself. I admire her compassion, her humour and her passion. I love her with all that I have and if I’m half the mother she is, my future children will be very lucky.

My Nanna, while she is no longer with us she is still always in my heart. I think of her, before I do anything. When I’m feeling lost I look up at the night sky and follow where the brightest star takes me, I believe she’s there, eternally guiding me to where I’m meant to be. I miss her everyday, I know her soul was too pure for this world.

My best friends, some whom I don’t speak to as often as I would like and those who I speak with regularly. This is for those who live close by and those who live thousands of miles away. They all influenced and inspire me and they have all helped shape me into the person I am today. I would not have gotten through high school, college or university without these incredible women at my side. Even now, as a grown women there are those I look to for comfort, for adventure and advice.

To all of you I say thank you.
